CAN NEVER BE UNDONE

Woke up one morning

I woke up with the Sun

Outside the birds were singing

A brand new day had begun

Through breakfast

The TV was playing

It was playing

Some carefree tunes

When the solitude

Of the quiet, sunny morning

Was shattered

By breaking news.

Another conflict

Over troubled borders

Had darkened

So many innocent lives

Amid

All of the destruction

All we see now

Are scenes of misery

What is

The purpose

What do

They ever achieve

For once it had begun

The atrocities come

And the horror

Can never be undone

         Will the hatred obsessed

         Be ever put to rest

Give peace a chance, half a chance

         Extend an olive branch

         Why can’t they get along

Know what they do is wrong

And at the root of all wars

         Lies the carnage they cause

         Although a war be won

All the heartache they have wrung

         Has just begun

         And never be undone.
