DROUGHT AND FLOODING RAIN

 (brief instrumental intro)

From a mighty monsoon trough

The rain came pouring down

Across the plains of Brisbane

Flooded many a country town

Folk had little warning

Before shelter they could seek

A surge over the escarpment

Raged down Murphy Creek

(Instrumental interlude)

Down the Lockyer Valley

Grantham bore the brunt

As a tide of sullied water

Spread wide a fearsome front

Some scrambled onto rooftops

And stayed both night and day

While many houses in its path

Were cruelly swept away

  (Instrumental interlude)

The rain fell, unabated

Over hills and river plain

A new torrent boiled downstream

All hope now seemed in vain.

And so, the world wore witness

To Brisbane’s darkest hour

So much was swallowed

By the river’s awesome power

 (instrumental interlude)

The flood long since subsided

The threat for now has passed

Bitter memories and heartache

We know for years will last

Be not disillusioned

It could happen all again

Through endless cycles

Of drought and flooding rain

Of drought and flooding rain

 (Brief instrumental outro)
